DONCEL DE LA COLINA, Juan Antonio y TALANCON LEAL, Emmanuel. Indigenous Rap: Artistic Activism for the Vindication of the Ethnic Origin in an Urban Context. Andamios [online]. 2017, vol.14, n.34, pp.87-111. ISSN 2594-1917.
Since the end of the twentieth century an indigenous artistic movement has emerged in Mexico using the musical genre known as rap. This paper seeks to understand the way in which young indigenous people who emigrated to the city transmit and disseminate their values and ideologies through this genre. The results obtained from an analysis of the qualitative content of the songbook of the group “New Republic” refer to the way in which they participate in a political and social activism, with which they seek to rescue, reinforce and implant the roots o their ethnic identity, while they try to insert themselves fully into the globalized world in which they are immersed.
