Abstract
PEGO, Anabella Di. Understanding as a methodological approach in Hannah Arendt’s work. Andamios [online]. 2016, vol.13, n.31, pp.61-83. ISSN 2594-1917.
The issue of the method has not been a central topic in Hannah Arendt’s thought. However, in her response to critics in regard to her work, it is possible to delineate a peculiar methodological perspective that moves in a double direction. On the one hand, she dismantles certain traditional epistemological conceptions through the critique of notions like science, causality and objectivity. On the other hand, she offers a methodological approach that goes beyond the German tradition of understanding (Verstehen), laying the basis for the double hermeneutic and placing human affairs in the conceptual plot of event, discontinuous narration and crystallization. Thus, her thought contributes to clarify some methodological problems of historical and social sciences.
