The Mexican countryside must deal with four challenges: migration and refugees, protectionist trends in trade and unstable commodities markets, inequality and poverty and rural governance. Those trends call for a food and agriculture policy based on the right to food and the convergent issues on food security and food sovereignty and focusing on small farmers and productive potential of poor rural dwellers.
