Resumen

PALAZUELOS, Enrique  y  MACHIN, Alejandra. Noises and Silences in the Energy Policy of the United States. Economía UNAM [online]. 2008, vol.5, n.14, pp.7-36. ISSN 1665-952X.

This paper analyzes the two main lines of force that characterize the energy system of the United States: the final demand of transport sector, which is mainly supplied by petroleum, determines the continued growth of the crude oil imports, and the intermediate demand which is the main responsible for the environmental pollution. Further, it studies the limitations of natural gas, nuclear power and other renewed sources to increase their contribution to the electricity mix. Following, the Energy Policy of Bush Administration is examined. The conclusion is that this energy policy outcome is ineffective for changing the system predominant lines of force and therefore the energy dependence will continue increasing for the next decades.
