A critique of the Washington Consensus and the economic policies based on it, this article points for the fact that it did not take in to account the role of institutions in economic development and minimized the role of social policy. Although he recognizes the advances stemming from some of the ideas introduced, the author points out that market reforms have caused some of the ideas introduced, the author points out that market reforms have caused some of the problems that urgently require solutions, particularly poor economic performance and the deterioration of the terms of distribution in Latin America and other regions of the world.
