Resumen

SEVILLA SEVILLA, José Antonio. Subnational Democratization in Mexico 1988-2020. Capturing it from the Concept of Minimal Democracy. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2021, vol.11, n.22, 00015.  Epub 16-Feb-2024. ISSN 2007-8846.  https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl112220211272.

The object of this paper is to show the process of subnational democratization in Mexico, this in order to distinguish the political heterogeneity that exists within a territory, based on the concept of minimal democracy. To do this, we first establish what is understood by subnational democratization and its distinction from the national concept. Then we carry out a brief review of the main changes that reflect the existence of this process at the subnational level. The previous step justifies that, for this investigation, subnational democratization is identified from the concept of minimal democracy. Later, we reflect on the importance of this measurement. The text ends with the exposition of the democratization process in the Mexican states between 1988 and 2020.

Palabras llave : subnational democratization; democracy; subnational politics; alternation; electoral competitiveness.
