FRAUSTO ORTEGA, Jesús. Water supply in the irregular neighborhoods of Nuevo Laredo. An approach to the human right to wáter. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.20, pp.241-269. Epub 14-Mar-2022. ISSN 2007-8846. https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl92020191025.
This paper reflects on the supply of drinking water in the irregular settlements of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, from an approach to the human right to water. Structured interviews were conducted with public officials and settlers, photographs were taken, and primary and secondary sources were consulted. It was found that potable water is provided free of charge to families to meet basic needs at an average of seventy liters per person per day, but this quantity is not enough. The value of the research lies in the human-right-to-water approach to understand the supply in water-scarce populations. It is concluded that such a supply is not enough to cover basic needs. Likewise, emphasis is placed on the mismanagement and use of water.
