Abstract

NAHUEL MARTIN, Facundo. Categorical reading of postone and accelerationism. Criticism of work and modernity project. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.20, pp.141-168.  Epub Mar 14, 2022. ISSN 2007-8846.  https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl9202019983.

This paper aims to establish a first comparative reading between the recent proposal for an accelerationist policy by Srnicek and Williams and the categorical re-reading of Marx by Moishe Postone. While the coincidences between these approaches have gone unnoticed in the secondary bibliography, it is possible to show at least three fundamental points of agreement: First, the three aforementioned thinkers formulate a critique of labor in capitalist society (rather than an affirmation of labor, as has been predominant in the tradition of the Marxist left). Second, they design an emancipatory project that is not closely centered on the working class, which sees other social movements as actors of fundamental importance. Third, they offer a complex and nuanced perspective of the modern technique developed in capitalism, avoiding falling into naive glances on progress as well as unilateral rejections of modernity as such. These significant similarities, neglected in the secondary bibliography, justify a comparative reading.

Keywords : accelerationism; categorical critique; critique of work; modernity.
