The objective of this work is to identify and to analyze the main strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that influence small-scale apicultural activity. A survey was carried out by means of stratified sampling. The estimation of indicators and the study were based on the SWOT analysis’ procedure. As a result, the mefe and mefi matrixes showed satisfactory responses, that is, apiculture is a livestock activity with advantages for its practice. This activity has socioeconomic implications: it is profitable, and with institutional support, it would be a trigger for the local and regional economy. The value of this work consists of presenting proposals for improvement that resulted from the SWOT analysis, which are of capital importance for the strengthening of the apiculture activity in the region. It is concluded that the capitalization of apiculture will favor its technological and business modernization, which would result in greater competitiveness.
