Resumen
RIVERA CASTANEDA, Patricia y CHAVEZ RAMIREZ, Refugio. The construction of environmental history in America. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2018, vol.8, n.16, pp.171-202. Epub 14-Ago-2020. ISSN 2007-8846. https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl9162018781.
The objective of the article is to analyze the triggers, the diversification, the enrichment, and the complexification of the environmental history in America as a social construct. To do this, a characterization of the selected studies is carried out, from a man-nature analytical position, identifying its analysis scale. As a result, it is pointed out that the progress of environmental history has consisted of considering nature from a broad perspective, where social crises explain environmental crises. In regard to limitations, it is mentioned that, because it is a field under discussion, there is an immense variability, since the role of nature is determined by the ethical position of each author. The originality of this work consists of delving into the knowledge about environmental historiography in America by making an empirical characterization contribution. It is concluded that environmental history, as a discipline, allows determining what is substantial in the society-nature relation in different periods.
