CHAVEZ COURTOIS, Mayra Lilia y SANCHEZ MAYA, Norma Angélica. Obstetric violence and maternal morbidity: Gender violence events. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2018, vol.8, n.16, pp.103-119. Epub 14-Ago-2020. ISSN 2007-8846. https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl9162018769.
The article focuses on the relationship between the practice of obstetric violence and maternal morbidity, and the way in which it contributes to gender violence. Semi-structured interviews were applied, notes were made, and field observation on experiences of delivery care in indigenous women. Among the results obtained, the performance of unnecessary routine medical practices during delivery care was identified, which violates women and contributes to gender violence. Connecting the experiences of obstetric violence and maternal morbidity allows exploring other expressions of gender violence. The originality of the study is that it is inevitable to consider obstetric violence as a type of violence against women that transgresses their integrity during pregnancy and childbirth. In conclusion, obstetric violence is an expression of gender violence that does not contribute to the quality of maternal health.
