Abstract

MALLIMACI BARRAL, Ana Inés. Moving through Argentina: The presence of Bolivians in Ushuaia. Migr. Inter [online]. 2012, vol.6, n.4, pp.173-207. ISSN 2594-0279.

Recent years have seen a novelty in the long tradition of Bolivian migration to Argentina: an increasing number of Bolivian people settling in the south of the country. In her research, the author has analyzed the case of the Bolivian community in the Ushuaia city, which was still unexplored. In this paper she presents some of these research results, related to Bolivians' migratory experience and the mechanisms behind their settlement patterns. She argues that the presence of Bolivians in Ushuaia is due to a local logic, involving state and regional markets, and to a mechanism of Bolivian migration in Argentina as well.

Keywords : migration strategies; ways of residence; Ushuaia; Argentina; Bolivia.
