MONTOYA ZAVALA, Érika. Negocios remeseros en Gabriel Leyva Solano: Una localidad sinaloense de reciente migración. Migr. Inter [online]. 2007, vol.4, n.2, pp.61-92. ISSN 2594-0279.

The objective of this article is to analyze the factors that encourage and restrict the use of remittances in productive activities. The case study is a community, Gabriel Leyva Solano, in the agricultural Valley of Sinaloa, surrounded by eight packing companies, a rice packing firm and a crab export company. The demand for labor on the part of these companies promoted the immigration of temporary labor from others regions of Mexico and the emigration of women with H-2B visas to crab processing firms in North Carolina, Virginia and Lousiana. The data collected, according to home and business surveys, as well as interviews conducted with the owners of remittance business in the community, suggest that the factors that encourage the productive use of remittances are related to the dynamism of the local labor market, circular migration, the support of social networks in the communities of origin and the actions carried out by migrants to increase their income.

Palavras-chave : remittance businesses; labor market; circular migration; social networks; family incomes.
