Resumen

MANDUCA, Ramiro. Depictions of the Argentine and Brazilian Working Class of the Early 1930s in the Aguafuertes cariocas of Roberto Arlt. Latinoamérica [online]. 2022, n.74, pp.79-102.  Epub 09-Mayo-2022. ISSN 2448-6914.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cialc.24486914e.2022.74.57373.

Abstract:

At the beginning of 1930, the Argentine writer and journalist Roberto Arlt made his first trip outside the native borders as a correspondent for the newspaper El Mundo. His destination was Rio de Janeiro. The objective of this article is to analyze from the perspective of cultural studies, the writings resulting from that trip, focusing on the depictions of the Argentine and Brazilian working class that are condensed there. The intersection between class, race, and access to culture that we analyze at work, constitutes a report to measure the density that the respective working classes had in each social network in a hinge context for Latin American societies. After this analysis, we conclude that the depictions constructed by the author are one more part of the autobiographical operation that characterized his literary work.
