EVANGELISTA-GARCIA, Angélica Aremy; TINOCO-OJANGUREN, Rolando y TUNON-PABLOS, Esperanza. Institutional Violence against Women in the Southern Region of Mexico. LiminaR [online]. 2016, vol.14, n.2, pp.57-69. ISSN 2007-8900.
In order to identify and understand in depth the ways in which violence against women is produced and reproduced in southern Mexico, we carried out qualitative and quantitative research in different contexts to identify the structural relationships present. We aim to show how cultural and symbolic constructions of gender in these contexts express and reinforce gender inequality. Women in various fields have historically experienced violence thought structural exclusion, discrimination and lack of access to better living conditions in general. However, institutional violence has not been identified in its proper dimensions and has been naturalized to the point that would have us believe that women are incapable of exercising their rights.
