This work is based on both discussion and reflection of rural transformations by subjects and social actors in terms of the concept ts'umbal, which constitutes a patrilineal domestic group. It is based on documentary, theoretical and empirical reviews, and contextualized in the tseltal society of Oxchuc, Chiapas. A critical reflection on the instrumental rationality of scientific knowledge was performed. The conclusion drawn was the diversity and relation of rationales of rural life in constant transformations.
