RODRIGUEZ-ECHAVARRIA, Tania. Transboundary Cooperation and Environment in Central America: the Case of Sixaola River Basin between Costa Rica and Panama. LiminaR [online]. 2013, vol.11, n.2, pp.13-34. ISSN 2007-8900.
The Sixaola River basin, located between Costa Rica and Panama is considered a dynamic region, with an availability of multiple cooperation scenarios. Its environmental and cultural resources, as well as its early institutional and legal bi-national cooperation framework, among other factors, have made this border an attractive region for important cooperation initiatives on environmental conservation initiatives. These projects, carried out by foreign stakeholders such as non-governmental organizations (NGO's), public-private alliances and international financial organizations have an important influence on the environmental management of this border region. This article will examine its role and influence.
