ORTIZ-ARRAZOLA, G. L.; REYES-AGUILAR, A.; GRAJALES-ALONSO, I. y TENAHUA-QUITL, I.. Identify the presence of risk factors for prostate cancer. Enferm. univ [online]. 2013, vol.10, n.1, pp.3-7. ISSN 2395-8421.
Introduction: In Mexico, the male population has a high mortality rate due to prostate tumors, followed by soft trachea, bronchi, and lung tumors. Objective: To address the presence of risk factors predisposing prostate cancer in males between 35 and 65 years old in Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz city, Oaxaca. Methods: Basic and descriptive study with a sample of 100 males. The sampling process was conventional and not probabilistic. The "Prostate Cancer Development Predisposing Factors Checklist" was used. The study was conducted in agreement with the Health General Law. For the statistical analysis the SPSS software was used. Results: Obesity and overweight were identified as risk factors. Discussion: Risk factors identified were obesity and overweight, and Ferris et al., and Salas et al., also consider that this condition is related to metabolism; moreover, the American Cancer Society highlights, that obesity is linked to a rise in the mortality from liver and pancreas tumors principally. Conclusion: Obesity and overweight are risk factors, and thus, it is necessary to promote a culture of responsibility aimed to detect any symptom suggestive of a possible prostate cancer development.
