CANADAS, Gustavo; BATANERO, Carmen; CONTRERAS, José Miguel e ARTEAGA, Pedro. Strategies in the study of the association in contingency tables by psychology students. Educ. mat [online]. 2011, vol.23, n.2, pp. 5-31. ISSN 1665-5826.
Contingency tables are essential tools for the professional work of psychologists and other health-care professionals; however, little attention is paid to its teaching. In this work we describe an exploratory study of the different strategies that a sample of psychology students used to establish the possible association of two variables, presented in contingency tables. Results are compared with a previous study by Estepa (1993) with high school students and implicit semiotic conflicts are identified in the partially correct and incorrect strategies.
