The Catholic Church played an important role in the reconstruction of Mexico City, after the 1985 earthquake. Among all the Catholic actors who led this process, one religious order was surely the protagonist: The Society of Jesus. A Jesuit led the reconstruction, playing a relevant role within the hierarchy structure, collaborating strictly with the Mexican government, however, there were Jesuits who, in the reconstruction of the city, led a protest movement towards the government and also they were dissatisfied with the Catholic hierarchy.
