GARCIA PENA, Ana Lidia. Divorce in Mexico City at the dawn the twentieth century: the rebellion of men. Sig. his [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.36, pp.118-147. ISSN 1665-4420.
This article studies the social history of divorce in Mexico City between 1900 and 1920 as part of the process of individuation in gender relations. Three main processes are analyzed: 1) the increase in the practice of divorce at the beginning of the twentieth century up to its change into a cultural fashion; 2) the importance of foreigners in this practice, since they helped spread new global trends; and 3) the different processes of individuation among women and men seeing that, while women petitioned for their divorce in order to gain economic freedom, men encouraged these processes in order to be free and able to remarry.
