In this article, the author questions some of the assertions by traditional historiography about the Ayutla Revolution and the incorporation of liberals in exile in the United States of America to such movement. Using several primary sources, some of them unpublished, the author rethinks the diverse aims and the discursive differences between the group that initiated the revolution and those who took it to its radicalization, or transformated it from a moderate movement into a social reform.
