In this work I analyze the diverse conceptions about Country and Nation in the epoch of Porfirio Díaz. The paintings, the lithographies, the patriotic monuments and the historic narrations, among others expressions, had the function of relate the origins of the nation and of the national identity. It is necessary to remark the evolutionary representation of the past and the revaluation of the mesoamerican world as an example of the old indigenous nation. During the celebrations of the Centenary of Independence was spread the image of Mexico as a country which, based on the pre-Colombian past, had a prosperous present projected toward the future. Some of the fundamental objectives in the politics of Porfirio Díaz were the construction of the concept of Country, as well as the formation of the Nation and the educational reform.
