Collagen as a biomaterial applied in the field of medicine provides support to various tissues. The source of origin of this protein as well the processing techniques used derive in biomaterials with different properties. In this paper we reports a suitable procedure for obtaining collagen type I from bovine tendon. The extraction was using an enzymatic treatment using pepsin, which allows obtain great amount of collagen in solution and minimize the immunological response in the body. The process was carried out has allowed the extraction, characterization and purification of collagen and the collagen quantity was quantified using spectrophotometry.
