VAZQUEZ MOCTEZUMA, Salvador Enrique. Ethics in the publication of academic journals: the perception of social science editors. Innov. educ. (Méx. DF) [online]. 2016, vol.16, n.72, pp.53-74. ISSN 1665-2673.
The editor is an intermediary among the author, the copy editor and the readers, but at the same time he or she supervises the development of scientific knowledge through the publication of articles; this figure has the responsibility of choosing the best works and making the decision to accept or reject a document. The objective of this paper is to determine the perceptions of editors with regard to poor behavior in the publication of social science journals. We also mention the different ethics committees and uses of software to detect plagiarism and describe undesirable practices among author, editor and copy editor during the editorial process. The methodology applied an online survey with the responses of 17 editors. The majority of the participants have detected undesirable publication practices, the most serious of which were fragmentation of research, as Šupak Smolcˇic´ (2013) has noted, and self-plagiarism.
