VALENCIA FLORES, Abraham O.. On technique: Philosophical reflections by José Gaos for the IPN. Innov. educ. (Méx. DF) [online]. 2015, vol.15, n.69, pp.73-97. ISSN 1665-2673.
José Gaos, the privileged heir of Hispanic philosophy after the Spanish Civil War, critically philosophized on, among other topics, modern science and techniques, particularly on their aspects of domination, acceleration and the insatiable quest for profits. This led him to forewarn about the "empire of technique," predicting the possibility of the material and spiritual destruction of human beings on all levels of future life. These reflections, the first of their kind in Hispanic America, began to appear in his first texts in Mexico and were brought together in 1959 in the article "On technique," written for the first issue of Acta Politécnica Mexicana, a journal by the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN). The reflections on these topics continued until his posthumous work, History of ouridea of the world. His ideas regarding science and technique remain philosophically relevant to the IPN and its educational activities, as well as to research of the 21st century.
