CORTES CAMPOS, Rocío Leticia; ZAPATA GONZALEZ, Alfredo; MENENDEZ DOMINGUEZ, Víctor Hugo e CANTO HERRERA, Pedro José. The study of habits related to virtual social networks, using data mining. Innov. educ. (Méx. DF) [online]. 2015, vol.15, n.68, pp.99-114. ISSN 1665-2673.
The purpose of this paper is to present a general overview of the habits related to virtual social networks among pre-degree level students. The information was obtained through a survey given to 458 bachelor's degree students at the Autonomous University of Yucatan, Mexico. The analysis and interpretation was carried out using data mining techniques, through which groups of students were created according to their gender, frequency of connection and the social networks they use. Additionally, rules of association were deduced, which suggest important socio-economic and work conditions, particularly with regard to the places and devices used by the students at their time of connection. An important discovery is the correlation between the networks, Facebook and YouTube, as well as the instant messaging service WhatsApp.
