Abstract

TORRES RIVERA, Alma Delia; BADILLO GAONA, Manuela; VALENTIN KAJATT, Nadina Olinda  and  RAMIREZ MARTINEZ, Elia Tzindejhe. Docent competencies: The challenge of higher education. Innov. educ. (Méx. DF) [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.66, pp.129-145. ISSN 1665-2673.

The majority of research related to higher education has concentrated mainly on the analysis of the teaching-learning process, the evaluation of learned information based on competencies and academic performance in different contexts, and they only tangentially approach the studies of docent competencies. Explaining the transformations in the docent practice before the knowledge society’s demands from the last years of the past century implies acknowledging that the nature of higher education has transformed and, as a consequence, so has the role of instructors in the learning process. The objective of this study is to analyze the nature of docent competencies implied in higher education based on competencies in the framework of globalization and the accelerated expansion of scientific and technological innovation.

Keywords : Docent competencies; higher education; knowledge society.
