Abstract

VILLAGOMEZ, Alejandro  and  FARIAS, Jennifer. Analysis of the Evolution of the Enrollment of Degree in Political Science and Public Administration in Mexico: 1974-2007. Polít. gob [online]. 2009, vol.16, n.2, pp.385-409. ISSN 1665-2037.

Our paper offers a first analysis on the evolution and behaviour of enrolment to the undergraduate degrees of pc and pcpa in Mexico during 1974-2004. We emphasized an increase in enrolment, more accentuated for pcpa, which is explained to a great extent by the expansion of private institutions, particularly in the last ten years. A decentralization process is also observed, increasing the participation in province, as well as a growing participation of women. Our analysis suggests the political context is relevant for the election of CP, whereas the relevance of the State is useful to explain the fluctuations in the enrolment pcpa. Finally, a substitution effect between CP and economy and RI is also observed.

Keywords : degree in political science; international relations; private institutions; political context.
