ALVAREZ-CARVAJAL, Francisco et al. Silver nanoparticles coated with chitosan against Fusarium oxysporum causing the tomato wilt. Biotecnia [online]. 2020, vol.22, n.3, pp.73-80.  Epub 10-Fev-2021. ISSN 1665-1456.  https://doi.org/10.18633/biotecnia.v22i3.952.

Fusarium wilt in tomato seedlings is of great economic importance throughout the world due to the significant losses it causes in the crop. Advances in nanotechnology provide alternatives that can be applied for pathogens control. Silver nanoparticles (AgNP) stabilized with chitosan (Cs) are currently in widespread use for the control of plant pathogens. The objective of the present investigation was to determine the effect of the application of Ag-Cs NPs on the tolerance of tomato seedlings to, and control of the vascular wilt caused by, Fusarium oxysporum. The results showed that the application of the NPs did not show negative effects in the normal vegetative development of the tomato seedlings (up to 2000 ppm). Nanostructures were significantly effective to inhibit mycelial growth by up to more than 70% and, in addition, the treatment was effective to reduce the severity of the disease in Fusarium oxysporum inoculated seedlings after 14 days post-inoculation.
