Abstract

RAMIREZ, Mario Teodoro. The limits of phenomenology and the ontological turn in the concept of culture. Sig. Fil [online]. 2019, vol.21, n.41, pp.128-147.  Epub Apr 04, 2022. ISSN 1665-1324.

In this article I propose a new concept of culture from the perspective of the new philosophical current of speculative realism or new realism. It is an ontological concept that stops seeing culture only from the human point of view. In this manner I critically adjust accounts with traditional conceptions of culture, particularly those derived from phenomenology and hermeneutics. For the exposition of the ontological turn in the concept of culture, I follow the approaches of Gilles Deleuze, Manuel De-Landa, Bruno Latour and the Brazilian anthropologist Eduardo Viveiros de Castro. I conclude by highlighting the basic theses of an ontological-speculative approach to culture.

Keywords : speculative realism; new materialism; anthropology; Meillassoux; Manuel DeLanda.
