Abstract

ORTIZ ESPEJEL, Benjamín. Resignificance of sustainability in a context of climate change. Tóp. Sem [online]. 2018, n.39, pp.81-100. ISSN 2594-0619.

This article intends to reflect on the importance of a permanent resignificance of sustainability. Based on a conventional definition of sustainability and a critical perspective, the present article puts into consideration meaning of sustainability in permanent transformation. This proposal arises from the different forms of social representation that respond to the urgent needs of resistance from different social groups organized, in a clear defense of their cultural identity and decision rights on their territories. From a thorough review of cases of experiences of community self-management in Mexico, the article suggests a permanent process of resignificance of sustainability, not without social tension and political struggle in a context of climate change.

Keywords : sustainability; community self-management; resignification; climate change.
