Abstract

CANO RUIZ, Amanda  and  BUSTAMANTE SANTOS, Alfonso Javier. Telesecundarias school of indigenous context and the initial training of their teachers. Sinéctica [online]. 2017, n.49. ISSN 2007-7033.

We present the results of an ethnographic research developed in two telesecundarias school indigenous context. First we recognize the characteristics of the contexts and students, and then we analyze the teachers’ conceptions regarding the schools, the parents, their role as teachers in a bilingual environment and their appreciations in relation to Spanish and the indigenous languages present. Teachers were confused about their educational practice, perceived limitations in attending to their students and proposed to extend the mastery of Spanish as well as integrate them into a “new culture”. These findings made it possible to define proposals aimed at strengthening the initial training of telesecundaria teachers in Normal Schools: to promote a formative line in the curriculum of the Bachelor in Secondary Education with a specialization in Telesecundaria oriented to the knowledge of intercultural bilingual education; promote the learning of an indigenous language throughout the undergraduate studies and the training in didactics of languages. This would impact better education for students living in indigenous communities in Mexico.

Keywords : telesecundaria; indigenous context; teachers’ conceptions; initial teacher training; intercultural education.
