Abstract

MARTINEZ GOMEZ, Luis Jesús  and  SANCHEZ GARCIA, María José. Migrant journalers children: Social vulnerability, labor and education on the farm Las Hormigas. Sinéctica [online]. 2017, n.48. ISSN 2007-7033.

As result of the policy adjustment in México during the 1980s, child labor has been increasing in various agricultural areas in the country. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of both the academic and government institutions, NGOs and civil society, due not only to unfavorable living conditions, insecurity and labor flexibility that these children and their families suffer, but also to the social vulnerability they experience. Moreover, there are not nearby solutions to the social exclusion and marginalization dimension they go through; revealing that government public policies are ineffective to solve their most immediate needs. To better illustrate this we have the educational issue, to which government programs have failed to prevent school dropout, improve the seize rates or develop appropriate strategies to promote their social mobility skills. Such is the case of children working in the coffee farm Las Hormigas, located in the Sierra Norte de Puebla, inasmuch as they are immersed in a vulnerability context, in which the opportunities and possibilities of social mobility are scarce, leading to the generationally reproduction of poverty and social exclusion.

Keywords : migration; education; social vulnerability & child labor.
