Numerous studies exist on the art and his benefit in the school activities in children and elderly people, not this way in university student. The objective of this study was to analyze the relation between engagement and artistic motivation with the academic performance in university students. Participated 333 students of the Faculty of Psychology of a public University. To elaborate and applied an Inventory of Academic Activities and Extra Academic, information was obtained personal identification with a card of identification and there was obtained the school report cards of every participant. The information analyzed in the program SPSS 20.0, correlations were carried out between the variables of study. One found significant correlation between engagement and artistic motivation and academic performance, as well as between engagement and artistic motivation and the average of rising school grades. The results suggest an effect lightly adversely between the practice of the arts and the academic performance; these findings contradict the results brought in other investigations. It proposes to deepen the investigation in the mater bearing in mind other psychological, of the family, social and school variables that allow identifying the factors linked to the engagement and artistic motivation.
