Much has been said about the professional development of teachers, but has rarely been compared what happens between different Spanish-speaking countries as in the case of Spain and Latin-American countries. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to describe and analyze teacher training and professional development in Spain and Latin America in general. This paper presents clearly concepts as training and professional development, including an analysis of the role of the teacher and what unites and separates Spain and Latin American countries in terms of teachers' professional development and presents some differences identified in the context between Latin-American countries and Spain.
