This article describes the results obtained with graduate students and professors of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) regarding professional ethics. This information is based on the application of an instrument designed for this research project on Professional Ethics in UNAM. The instrument applied to a number of students and teachers includes the open ended question: what are the five main traits of "being a good professional"? and a range of attitudes with 55 propositions. The sample covered 40 graduate programs of the UNAM. 1 086 students and 719 teachers were surveyed. The paper focuses on the comparison of results with students and teachers, and presents several ideas to be considered regarding skills in education, since the existing categorization skills (cognitive, ethical, social, affective-emotional, and technical) and their traits were used to encode all the answers to the open ended question and the proposed scale.
