Abstract

TALLEDOS SANCHEZ, Edgar. Geography: as a political knowledge. Espiral (Guadalaj.) [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.61, pp.15-49. ISSN 1665-0565.

This paper argues that geography, from its prelude as a science, is a political knowledge. This work reviews political geography's historical background and the variety of studies that emerged from it in the first half of the 20th century. It also analyzes the discourse of European and American imperialism, which linked political geography to geopolitics - as well as those that did not. The last section proposes using the concept of space to assess geographical science.

Keywords : political geography; geopolitics; imperialism; space; power.
