Abstract

ISUNZA VIZUET, Georgina. Urban-environmental effects on housing policy in Mexico City. Espiral (Guadalaj.) [online]. 2010, vol.17, n.49, pp.129-159. ISSN 1665-0565.

This paper offers a reflection on the environmental and urban housing policy from two main principles: first, the intense dynamism that acquire real estate companies in the construction of living space, who promote a fragmented urban growth pattern that exacerbates the environmental crisis. Second, the obstacles facing by sustainable housing programs, derived from social risk families, the housing backlog and the rigidity of financing schemes. These policies appear to respond more to the interest of real estate and financial to social housing needs. The analysis is based on tne experience of Mexico City and its metropolitan area.

Keywords : Housing programs; urban growth; environmental effects; Mexico City.
