This article proposes a reflection on the main principles of the currículum design. I analyze the tension between formal currículum and the hidden or experience currículum. I argue that we should avoid this polarization throughout a democratic currículum policy. I propose an approach labeled as 'living currículum', which is rooted in social practices and articulates all currículum stages. Then, I make a case for a democratizing process of curricular innovation because it should be participative in order to be rooted. This process also should conduct a mobilizing evaluation and generate knowledge in order to renew the currículum as well as the educational institutions.
