Resumen

DIAZ BARRIGA, Ángel. The Curriculum: Conceptual and Practical Tensions. REDIE [online]. 2003, vol.5, n.2, pp.1-13. ISSN 1607-4041.

This essay analyses two divergent curricular trends which evolved in the course of the last century. One of them considers the curriculum as linked to a systematic or institutional project; this point of view is present in different plans and syllabi proposals. The other one is associated to concepts like everyday life, curriculum as an intellectual practice and curricular reality, recovering what happens within the educational ambit, particularly in the classroom. The paper acknowledges the trends' sole origin at the beginning of the 20th century; it also analyses their evolution, which was marked by mutual discredit. Finally, there is a reflection upon the need to identify each trend's asset and shortcomings.

Palabras llave : Curriculum; history of curriculum; curriculum theory.
