Resumen
KARSENTI, Thierry; LAROSE, François y NUNEZ, Mauricio. Web-based Courses in Higher Education: A "Challenge" to Student-teachers' Self-determination and Autonomy. REDIE [online]. 2002, vol.4, n.1, pp.01-18. ISSN 1607-4041.
The goal of this article is to present the success and problems encountered by a group of 140 student-teachers enrolled in a university Web-based course. The data stems from the content analysis of interviews conducted with several students, as well as of the emails received (n=1614) and of the transcripts of conversations held on-line in real time (chat). The results attract our attention as they reflect the importance of rigorous pedagogical management, that is of courses which take into account specific educational criteria in their conception, especially when dealing with the creation of Web-based courses. The results of these analyses direct us toward a better conception for more effective Web-based courses. We hope that our study will inspire other educators to successfully conceive such courses while, critically, encouraging future reflection on the potential problems to avoid.
