CASTRO MENDEZ, Evelyn Norma. Knowing and Understanding the Other: Intercultural Communication of Al-Qaeda. Desacatos [online]. 2013, n.43, pp.85-100. ISSN 2448-5144.
Al-Qaeda is one of the best known Islamic organizations in Occidental world. In this paper we present the results of a discourse analysis applied to the texts released following attacks on the United States (2001), Madrid (2004), and London (2005), with the purpose of answering the following two questions: ¿which were the purposes of these messages and what do they reveal about their communicators? We consider that studying these processes of intercultural communication may be able to provide us keys to know and understand the other, far beyond the media stereotypes that have been formulated.
