Abstract

SALAS ALFARO, Renato. Productive Activities and International Return Migration: The Bakers of San Miguel Coatlán, Oaxaca. Desacatos [online]. 2013, n.41, pp.107-122. ISSN 2448-5144.

From the perspective of sustainable livelihoods, this research analyzes how return migration affects productive activities in San Miguel Coatlan, Oaxaca, especially the bakery. The depth interviews revealed that migration and return made possible for the bakers to improve their productive capacity, technical and human. It accentuates too that despite their efforts, the technical needs to strengthen this activity remain higher than the available resources. In this sense, public programs could redirect its resources to support the needs of returnees and to facilitate them to continue improving their livelihoods.

Keywords : return migration; indigenous community; productive activities; livelihoods; Oaxaca.
