Resumen

DORAIS, Michel. Intimidad en venta: ¿cómo se llega a ser trabajador sexual?. Desacatos [online]. 2004, n.15-16, pp.52-68. ISSN 2448-5144.

Stemming from an empirical investigation led by a research team from the University of Laval, in Quebec, Canada, which involved 40 young men, sexual workers (street prostitutes, nudist dancers or strippers and escorts) four profiles or life scenarios were derived from the interviewed: 1) "drift", in which drug addiction and prostitution go hand in hand; 2) "extra income", in which prostitution represents a temporary or occasional means of increasing young people's earnings; 3) "belonging", a scenario in which prostitution already existed in the family or has become to be "the family" for the young person, and 4) "liberation", a scenario in which young people consider that the activities of prostitution enable them to achieve personal fulfillment in different areas of their lives. The author concludes that prostitution of young people is a plural phenomenon, something which the social programs (especially those related to STI and HIV) concerning this sector should take into account.
