The present study aims to identify gender differences in the experience of positive and negative emotions, as well as in the main concerns and needs identified in relation to online learning during the first weeks of the COVID-19 confinement. The sample consisted of undergraduate students from 10 public universities in Mexico with a total of 13704 participants with an age range of 18 to 30 years. The results obtained highlight that the main difference between genders is the need for emotional stability, obtaining a significantly lower score in most of the positive affective states in women. Regarding the main problems related to online learning during the first weeks of confinement, differences were observed, especially in the fact that more women had to share computer equipment with other members of the family. Likewise, a greater experience of negative emotions and lower scores in positive emotions were shown. The results are discussed, highlighting the inequalities perceived by gender and insisting on socioemotional education as a mean to face daily demands and relate to other people in a satisfactory manner.
