SOLIS DOMINGUEZ, Daniel e MARTINEZ LOZANO, Consuelo Patricia. Género, cuerpo y diversidad cultural: significaciones y prácticas de estudiantes de secundarias públicas en San Luis Potosí. La ventana [online]. 2014, vol.5, n.39, pp.141-178. ISSN 1405-9436.
This text analyzes the significations and corporal practices developed by public high school students in the city of San Luis Potosí. The objective is to examine the elaboration of meaning and life experiences around the body inside schools based on two axis: 1) the relations of identity and the perceptions on the cultural difference and 2) the relations of gender and sexuality. The school teaches and transmits schemes of socially dominant thought and action that are expressed in the body and orient the relationship between men and women. From testimonies expressed by students in collective interviews, it is clear that the school is not only a scope of transmission and reproduction, but it is also a space where the scholastic agents generate and socialize models regarding the body and its actions. This way, students build their identity by means of representations of the body and the cultural diversity. It is concluded that the body exceeds the merely biological subjects taught in school, and, at the same time, that it is not reduced to the sexual aspects, but that the normative principles and the ones of hierarchy, inequality, transgression, cultural differentiation, and power at the interior of a social environment are interiorized and objectified in it.
