Starting from the personal history of an outstanding Mexican activist, we analyse the relationship between subjective construction of gender identity and the assumption of a feminist discourse and political work through her identification with the main character of the film Retrato de Teresa (I? Vega, Cuba, 1979). This research is multidisciplinary in its theoretical approach due to the use of different perspectives to explain the process of identification in the case: from concepts used in Film Aesthetics, Audiovisual Narrative, Anthropology or Semiotics, to Feminist Theory in general and Feminist Film Theory in particular. Therefore we defend the power that the audiovisual text has to generate its own spectators and the process of identification in this case. The analysis focuses on two themes: the everyday private life of the subject and her identification with a film of the seventies.
