Society and culture reproduce traditional patterns of gender roles, whose main features are the inequality and the asymmetry of power, and which tend to limit opportunities for women. These patterns are deeply assimilated by individuals as models, principles and attitudes. The workplace is a social space where traditional patterns are reproduced. In the case of women, their vulnerability is increased because this structure is governed by archaic parameters of distribution of activities by gender, which imposes serious restrictions on their possibilities of insertion in the economy. The asymmetry and segregation women face at work is also reflected on the family hierarchy and housework.
