The Statute of the Political Opposition of Colombia celebrates four years of having been enacted. After decades of political instability caused by factors such as violence and corruption, Colombia has a legal instrument of the greatest relevance in recognizing plurality and criticism as fundamental elements of democracy and its institutions. After thirty one years of being established in the Constitution and in a political environment in which a left-wing politician will assume the presidency, Law 1909 faces the opportunity to prove its effectiveness, while it has the possibility to become a benchmark for latin american democracies.
